service project: cleaning up the labyrinth

service project: cleaning up the labyrinth.
The campers worked really hard.

Coming home from camp, I was tired and yet stayed up too late, unpacking the car, putting stuff away, petting the kitties. I got to church right at 9:15, though at least I had eaten breakfast. I was worried I didn’t have an ending for my sermon. Kaye came by my office, urging me down the hall, saying, just talk about camp. You’ll be fine.

Here is the audio file of last Sunday’s message at Immanuel. The text was Luke 7:36-8:3, the anointing woman, or, the woman with the alabaster jar. I transferred it from the RCL; in the last six weeks of summer I’m picking up key stories from Luke that were left out of the Narrative Lectionary cycle. The file includes a children’s sermon; skip ahead to 4:15 if you like. My phone was in my pocket; it’s a little echoey.

I hesitate to say this, but I felt really good about how it turned out. It was a gift of the Spirit, text and camp and an article we had included in the bulletin coming together in a powerful way.

I am proud to be a part of ALTS, and especially proud of the decision made to combine ALTS with BRRICK. C.J. Clark, director of Living Water Ministries, is a man with a vision, a leader who loves Jesus and is working to transform the camps so that they may continue to share Jesus with more generations of youth and adults.
